The Nigerian Police Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Muyiwa Adejobi, has announced that popular Nigerian singer, Habeeb Okikiola, aka Portable, is facing at least six charges for his recent unruly behavior and incitement against police officers. Adejobi took to Twitter to explain why the police acted swiftly in Portable’s case but were slow to take action against MC Oluomo, who had threatened some voters during the 2023 elections.
According to Adejobi, Portable faces six charges, including resisting arrest and injuring a police officer. He will also be charged for assaulting a man in Otta, who filed a petition with the CP Ogun. The singer is also under investigation for multiple complaints of attacks and assaults.
Adejobi emphasized that the law is impartial, and Portable has no constitutional immunity, so he will be tried in court for his actions. The police have picked up the singer after he refused to show up at their office after they invited him following his Instagram live video. The video, which has since gone viral, showed Portable claiming that some police personnel had stormed his bar at Sango Ota at the behest of an internet fraudster.
The singer is expected to spend the weekend in detention as the investigation continues. This incident has sparked outrage on social media, with many Nigerians calling for Portable to face the full weight of the law for his actions. Adejobi urged Nigerians not to be sentimental and let the law take its course.
