Ahmed Ololade, a Nigerian singer popularly known as Asake, has explained that he uses music to transcend language barriers. In a recent interview with ABC News, the 28-year-old singer revealed that he sings predominantly in Yoruba and Pidgin, combining Fuji and Amapiano to create his unique style of afrofusion.
Asake went on to say that he believes the lyrics to music don’t always need to be understood, and that Yoruba is an essential language to him because it has many speakers who can relate to his music. To him, music is a feeling that can be experienced without necessarily understanding every word.
In addition to discussing his approach to songwriting, Asake also spoke about the importance of connecting with his audience during live performances. He explained that he always strives to create a better experience for his fans than they could get from streaming his songs. For him, live performances are a chance to bring people together and share the joy of good music.
Asake’s hard work has paid off, and he was signed to the Olamide-owned label YBNL in February 2022. Since then, he has released his debut EP titled ‘Ololade’. He is quickly becoming a rising star in the Nigerian music industry, and fans cannot get enough of his unique sound.
