Minister advises opposition to accept defeat in 2023 presidential election
Minister dismisses opposition’s claims of election rigging, calls for acceptance of results

Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, has advised opposition parties to accept their defeat and stop complaining about the 2023 presidential election. He stated that the opposition lost the poll woefully and should give President Muhammadu Buhari the accolades he deserves for delivering the best election in the country’s history. Mohammed added that the opposition’s reaction to the president’s comments shows them as shameless sore losers.

The statement was issued in Abuja on Sunday by the Minister’s Special Assistant (Media), Segun Adeyemi. According to Adeyemi, Mohammed’s analysis of the reasons for the opposition’s loss in the 2023 elections was incontrovertible. He noted that both Peter Obi of the Labour Party and Peoples Democratic Party’s Atiku Abubakar lost the election due to overconfidence and complacency.

Mohammed emphasized that President Muhammadu Buhari provided a level playing field for all parties, and his legacy is assured. He stated that Buhari would rather lose his state and many of his party’s strongholds than tamper with the fidelity of the election. The Minister stressed that the opposition’s overconfidence going into the election stemmed in part from the blitzkrieg of social media propaganda as well as faulty and procured opinion polls.

Furthermore, Mohammed stated that the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Bola Tinubu, won the presidential election fair and square, clinching the majority of the votes cast and surpassing the constitutionally-stipulated 25% of votes cast in each of at least two-thirds of all the states in the Federation and the Federal Capital Territory. He added that none of the opposition parties met any of the conditions stipulated for winning the presidential election.

The Minister also pointed out that despite the claim by the opposition parties, a revered US diplomat passed the election as undoubtedly won by the APC presidential candidate. Mohammed berated the opposition over insinuation that delay in immediate uploading of results to IReV affected the credibility of the poll, calling it an act of blackmail and deceit by desperate individuals.

In conclusion, Mohammed urged the opposition parties to accept the election results and stop their complaining. He called on them to focus on the future and work towards improving their parties’ chances in the next elections.
