The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has officially announced the pardon of Mercy Isoyip, widely known as Descushiel, an actress, rapper, and singer, following her mishap while reciting the national anthem during a public event organized by the Force.

During a recent conference and retreat for senior police officers held in Owerri, the capital of Imo state, Descushiel, dressed in a police uniform for the occasion, made an error in the recitation of the national anthem, which garnered significant attention.

In an official statement released on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), the NPF stated, “To err is human. NPF pardons Mercy Isoyip, aka Descushiel, after her incorrect rendition of the National Anthem lyrics. The Force remains committed to supporting youthful talents.”

A video capturing her rendition, with Governor Hope Uzodinma and other guests in the hall reacting with surprise, quickly circulated on various social media platforms. Following the incident, Descushiel took to her Instagram page to issue a public apology, extending her regrets to the general public and the police institution.

On Monday, the NPF reiterated its commitment to supporting and promoting young talents. Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, speaking at an event, suggested that stage fright may have played a role in Descushiel’s error, considering the presence of a distinguished audience at the event. He advocated for giving her another opportunity to recite the national anthem at a public gathering.
