PDP Chair Ayu Begins 14-day Trip To Europe Amidst Calls For Resignation

The Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the Chairman, Simon Imobo-Tswam, made this known in a statement on Tuesday.

The statement read in part “the National Chairman, Dr. Iyorchia Ayu, will leave Nigeria for Europe tomorrow (Wednesday).

“Ayu will be out of the country for about two weeks.

“While away, the Deputy Chairman (North), Amb. Iliya Damagun, will act in his place.

“Already, the National chairman has communicated the handover to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). He is expected back at month-end”.

Ayu is facing mounting pressure from a strong section of the party to quit.

According to the group led by Rivers governor Nyesom Wike, Ayu’s position can no longer be justified after the party picked fellow northerner Atiku Abubakar as presidential flag bearer.

However, the party last week passed a vote of confidence on the chairman last week.
