Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has announced plans to commission three housing projects in the state, which will provide over 1,000 housing units. The projects are located in Gbagada, Odo-Onosa Ayandelu, and Agbowa. This development follows the successful commissioning of the Lateef Kayode Jakande Gardens in Igando earlier in the governor’s administration.
The state’s Commissioner for Housing, Moruf Akinderu-Fatai, revealed this exciting news on Monday. He stated that the governor would officially open the housing schemes on Thursday. One of the projects, Ndubuisi Kanu Estate in Gbagada, consists of 72 housing units. These units include 48 two-bedroom apartments and 24 three-bedroom apartments. This housing scheme is a significant achievement of Governor Sanwo-Olu’s administration, showcasing his commitment to reducing the housing deficits in Lagos State.
Commissioner Akinderu-Fatai emphasized that the commissioning ceremony is part of the activities marking the completion of Governor Sanwo-Olu’s first term in office. He highlighted that the housing project aims to provide decent homes for Lagosians living in the metropolis. The estate covers an area of 9.41 hectares and comprises six blocks of residences. It boasts well-connected roads, drainage systems, car park areas measuring 4890 square meters, and two 100KVA generators for sewage and water services. Additionally, the estate has external electrification with three transformers, an overhead tank, an underground water tank, a sewage treatment plant with a capacity of 69 cubic meters per day, a Mini Mart, and a community hall.
In addition to the Gbagada estate, Governor Sanwo-Olu will also unveil the LagosHoms Odo Onosa/Odo-Ayandelu housing scheme. Situated along Agbowa-Sagamu Road in the Ikosi-Ejirin Local Council Development Area, the scheme covers a land area of 8.22 hectares. It consists of 660 homes divided into 70 blocks, offering various dwelling types. These include eight blocks of one-bedroom flats (192 units), 21 blocks of two-bedroom flats (252 units), 26 blocks of three-bedroom flats (156 units), and 15 blocks of three-bedroom flats (60 units).
The LagosHoms Odo Onosa/Odo-Ayandelu scheme also features infrastructure such as roads, drainage networks, car parks, external electrification, water reticulation, and a sewage treatment plant.
Furthermore, Commissioner Akinderu-Fatai revealed that there is a Resettlement Scheme in Agbowa, situated along the same axis as Odo-Onosa-Ayandelu. This scheme provides 144 units for displaced individuals, including four blocks of two-bedroom flats (48 units) and four blocks of one-bedroom flats (96 units). The infrastructure in this resettlement scheme includes water reticulation, gate houses, an electricity transformer, car parks, access roads, and external drains.
The commissioner expressed his satisfaction with the governor’s commitment to alleviating the suffering of the masses. He assured the public that the Lagos State Government would continue to bridge the housing shortage through large-scale housing projects. He also mentioned that in addition to the three projects being commissioned, there are ongoing developments in Sangotedo, Egan, Epe, and Ajara, which will be completed in due course.
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Housing, Mr. Kamar Olowoshago, confirmed that the three projects set for commissioning were completed using budgetary allocations. He assured the citizens that the government would continue its interventions in housing provision.
