Kano Governor Undecided on Future Leadership Handover
Ganduje Leaves Future Kano Leadership to God’s Will

During the commissioning of some road projects in Kano, Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje made a statement regarding the upcoming transition of power in Kano state. He expressed that it is common for a government to inherit projects from the previous administration, complete them, and leave some for the incoming government.

He then went on to say that only God knows which government he will transmit power to, whether it will be the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) or the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).

It should be noted that the Kano governorship election was won by the NNPP candidate, Yusuf Abba Kabir, according to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). However, the APC disputed the results and took legal action against INEC and NNPP.

Despite the ongoing legal dispute, the Kano state Executive Council set up a 17-member Transition Committee in April to facilitate the handing over to the incoming administration. Additionally, a 100-member sub-committee was approved, consisting of members from various Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).

It remains to be seen which party will ultimately take over the reins of power in Kano state come May 29, but Governor Ganduje’s statement suggests that he is prepared to hand over to either the APC or the NNPP. Only time will tell who will emerge as the winner of the ongoing legal battle and take over the mantle of leadership in Kano state.
