Authorities in Southern China have disclosed that traces of the coronavirus were found on frozen chicken wings imported from Brazil.
The strange development was revealed on Thursday, August 13, 2020, and it said the surface of a sample of the imported chicken wings tested positive for COVID-19.
The city of Shenzhen made the statement on WeChat as the city’s Epidemic Prevention and Control Office organized nucleic acid testing for everyone who may have been exposed to the products. Fortunately, authorities stated that the results returned negative.
Additionally, China has started screening all meat and seafood containers into major ports, intensifying its screening efforts after a COVID-19 in June 2020 in Beijing was linked to the city’s Xinfadi wholesale food market.
Interestingly, the first coronavirus outbreak in the country in December 2019 was traced to the Huanan seafood market in the central city of Wuhan.
