Nigerian rising music star, Ikuforiji Olaitan Abdulrahman, known professionally as Oxlade, has opened up about his struggles before making it big in the music industry.
During a recent interview, the artist revealed that he had to sell tickets and food to make ends meet after running away from home to pursue his passion.
Oxlade disclosed that his father, a lecturer at a university, was initially unsupportive of his music career. He said that his stubbornness and persistence eventually paid off, but he had to face many challenges along the way.
To make a living, Oxlade had to resort to selling bus tickets, a job typically done by motor park touts, popularly known as βagberosβ. He also had to sell food at parties to make ends meet. Despite these challenges, Oxlade persevered and kept pushing to achieve his dreams.
During the interview, Oxlade also advised the youth to be resilient and tenacious in the pursuit of their dreams. He noted that if one can survive in Surulere, a densely populated area in Lagos known for its vibrant music scene, one can survive anywhere.
