In a significant breakthrough in the fight against cybercrime, the Ilorin Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has apprehended twenty individuals in connection with various offenses related to cybercrime. This recent operation marks the second successful raid carried out by the EFCC in Ilorin within the past month.

The development follows the earlier arrest on May 4, 2023, when EFCC operatives, belonging to the Ilorin Zonal Command, detained 62 suspected internet fraudsters. Among the detainees was Raji Wasiu Babatunde, a convicted individual who had previously faced charges related to similar offenses and was successfully prosecuted by the Commission last year.

Wilson Uwujaren, the spokesperson for the EFCC, shared this information in an official statement provided to journalists in Ilorin. The statement highlighted that the most recent arrest was made possible due to credible intelligence obtained by the agency. The operation took place in the areas of Egbejila, Airport Road, and Offa Garage, all located within Ilorin.

The suspects have been identified as Habeeb Abubakar, Abiola Abiodun, Atitebi Samuel, Emmanuel Mofe Oborirhwoho, John Adamson, Mayowa Akinola Victor, Oluwafemi Smith Ola, Abdullahi Isiak, Orji Daniel Roland, Martinson Adegboyega, and Kolawole Temidayo. Upon their apprehension, law enforcement officials seized a variety of electronic devices, including multiple brands of smartphones and laptops. The suspects also possessed several luxury vehicles, which were subsequently confiscated during the operation.

The EFCC has emphasized that thorough investigations are ongoing, and upon their conclusion, the arrested individuals will be brought before the court to face legal proceedings. The Commission remains committed to combating cybercrime and ensuring that those involved in fraudulent activities face the full consequences of their actions.
