Peter Obi, the Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party in Nigeria, has encouraged Nigerians not to lose hope in the face of tribulations and provocations as Easter brings hope and promise to all believers. In a message to Nigerian Christians celebrating Easter and Muslims observing the Ramadan fast, he urged Nigerians to remain steadfast and hopeful during these challenging times.
In his statement made available to newsmen in Abuja on Saturday, Obi acknowledged that Muslims are in the middle of their 30 days of special prayers and fasting that will culminate in Eid El Fitr. He expressed his prayers for a peaceful Nigeria ahead and sent his special greetings to Muslim brothers and sisters observing the Ramadan fast.
He urged all Nigerians, particularly the youths, to remain hopeful in the face of the numerous challenges and tribulations the country is currently facing. Obi emphasized that Nigerians should trust in the mercies and infinite benevolence of God Almighty, who is just and fair.
Obi further explained the significance of Easter, which marks the Resurrection of Jesus Christ three days after his death by crucifixion. He highlighted the three most significant events in Easter: the trial of Jesus, the death of Jesus, and the resurrection. He stated that the strength of Easter is that it gives all who believe in Christ the courage and hope that the Lord they serve, worship, and adore is alive and not dead.
The Presidential Candidate encouraged Nigerians to celebrate Easter as a festival of hope, knowing that our messiah is alive and not dead. He reminded Nigerians that Easter gives hope for eternal life, which is what every believer is working towards. He further stated that if Jesus, our messiah, died for us and rose from death to fight for us, there is no reason to despair.
In conclusion, Obi wished all Christians a happy celebration and prayed that the message and blessings of Easter would remain with Nigerians in the face of any tribulations, as our redeemer is living and active. He urged all Nigerians to continue to pray for a better and new Nigeria where equity, fairness, peace, unity, accountable leadership, and prosperity shall reign.
