Abubarkar said Nigeria needs a vibrant, visionary youth to lead the country, while the aged ones guide them through advice.

Abubakar said this when the presidential candidate of the Accord Party, Christopher Imumolen, visited him at his residence in Minna, the capital of Niger.

Abubarkar has thrown his weight behind the candidacy of Christopher Imumolen.

The retired General said Nigeria was in dire need of energetic and youthful leaders like Imumolen, noting that it was high time the old guard left the scene.

“I think the old ones should fade away gracefully and allow young people to take over,” Abubakar was quoted as saying.

“What we can do as former leaders is to mentor and tutor them in whatever way we can in order for them to lead the country.

“As a matter of fact, this is the time Nigerians should begin to support young, vibrant, and visionary leaders that would steer the country on the path of glory.

In his remarks, Imumolen said Nigeria needs youths with leadership records to man government offices.

“We need to reposition the country on the path of development and sustainable growth,” he said.

“And if that must be done, Nigerians should start looking at selecting those who have a track record in leadership at various levels from both the private and public sector.”

Last month, Imumolen said hardship will end if Nigerians vote for the right candidates in the 2023 elections.
