Refinery Running Smoothly Amid False Reports, Company Affirms
The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has refuted claims that the Port Harcourt Refinery has been shut down, asserting that the facility remains fully operational.
In a statement released on Saturday, Olufemi Soneye, the Chief Corporate Communications Officer for NNPCL, dismissed media reports suggesting a shutdown of the refinery, which resumed operations two months ago after a major revamp.
“Port-Harcourt Refinery Fully Operational,” the statement read. “The attention of NNPC Ltd has been drawn to reports in a section of the media alleging that the Old Port Harcourt Refinery … has been shut down. We wish to clarify that such reports are totally false.”
According to Soneye, the refinery’s status was recently verified by former Group Managing Directors of NNPCL, who confirmed its functionality during a visit. Preparations for ongoing loading operations were also noted as evidence of its active state.
He further urged Nigerians to disregard the misinformation, stating, “Members of the public are advised to discountenance such reports as they are the figments of the imagination of those who want to create artificial scarcity and rip-off Nigerians.”
