A woman named Tuale Iwejim has died after she was hit by a 16-year-old boy who was trying to move his mother’s car as it was obstructing ease of traffic.

The incident took place in Lagos and Punch reports that the victim was a 50-year-old trader who went to the Arena Shopping Mall, Oshodi to purchase some items for her shop was knocked down by the SUV being driven by the teen.

The report says the teenager and his mother were there to buy some things. The parent went back inside to pick up the remaining items and asked her son to wait for her in the car.

While waiting for his mother, the 16-year-old boy heard some persons complaining that the SUV was obstructing the free flow of traffic in the area.

Instead of letting them know that he couldn’t drive, he took the car key from his mum’s bag and getting on the driver’s seat, put the car in reverse, and hit the woman twice.

Mrs. Iwejim was rushed to the Lagos Teaching Hospital in Surulere where she underwent surgery before her death subsequently.

The tragic incident was narrated by her husband, Christopher Iwejim, who said:

“We were told that the boy and his mother went to the market to buy some things. After they did, the woman asked the son to wait for her in the car so that she could go and pack the remaining items.

While the boy was inside the car, somebody shouted that the vehicle was obstructing traffic and asked the occupant to park well. Instead of him to say he was not the driver, he took the key from the mother’s bag and started driving.

He managed to engage the gear on drive but forgot to use the brake. That was how he hit Tuale. While struggling to put it on reverse, he hit her again. She sustained what I will call first degree injuries on both legs from her waist down. The boy also damaged some billboards and structures in the market.”

It was also revealed that the N400,000 borrowed by the deceased to purchase the items was stolen while she was being attended to by onlookers.

The son of the deceased, Amos, shared that his mother spent three weeks in the hospital fighting for her life.

When the accident happened, she was stuck in a gas cylinder, and when they tried to remove her, some parts of her flesh got torn. Her hip bone was divided from her body. It also appeared like there were iron rods in her leg and there was a hole in the leg,” he said

The family of the dead woman said that an agreement was reached between them and those of the erring teen to share the medical bills equally.

The burial cost will also be provided by the teenager’s family.
