WAEC to Publish May/June 2023 WASSCE Scores

Lagos, Nigeria, August 7, 2023: The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) is gearing up to unveil the results of the May/June 2023 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) on Monday. According to a release received by TalkGlitz.media from the Acting Head of Public Affairs and Head of National Office, Mrs. Moyosola Adesina, anxious candidates and stakeholders can expect the highly anticipated results to be published on the official WAEC website.

In a conversation with a medium other than Vanguard, Mr. Patrick Areghan, the official spokesperson for WAEC’s National Office, expressed his satisfaction with the smooth and successful conduct of the examination and the marking process. He disclosed that a staggering total of 1,621,853 candidates from 20,851 secondary schools participated in the WASSCE.

Notably, the marking process, which involves grading the scripts of all candidates, encountered no significant hindrances, even in regions affected by the sit-at-home order. Mr. Areghan affirmed that all 76 subjects were graded without any problems, and the sit-at-home directives in the South East did not disrupt the evaluation of candidates’ papers.

“The council is working round the clock to try to beat the deadline. Certainly, the school exam results will be made public next week. There was no problem during the marking of 76 subjects. Even in the South East, the sit-at-home did not affect our marking. The exercise went smoothly without any issue,” Mr. Areghan assured.

A gender-wise breakdown of the registered candidates revealed that 798,810 were male, making up 49.25 percent, while 823,043 were female, constituting 50.75 percent of the total examinees.

The WAEC examination holds immense significance for secondary school students across West Africa, as it serves as a pivotal determinant for their academic and professional pursuits. As the countdown to the result release begins, candidates and their families are anxiously awaiting the outcomes of their hard work and dedication during the examination period.

The announcement of the results on Monday will undoubtedly trigger a mixture of emotions, with many students hoping for excellent performance to gain admission into higher institutions or secure scholarships, while others may seek avenues to improve in subsequent examinations if their results do not meet their expectations.

Education authorities, parents, and guardians are also keenly interested in the overall performance statistics, which will provide insight into the quality of education and help identify areas that require improvement in the educational system.

As the clock ticks towards the much-anticipated result release, WAEC remains committed to maintaining its reputation for conducting credible examinations and delivering results in a timely manner. Candidates and the general public are advised to stay tuned to the official WAEC website for further updates and instructions on accessing the results.
