Officials of the West African Examination Council (WAEC) supervising the ongoing WASSCE examination were physically assaulted by students in the eastern region of Ghana over strict invigilation.

According to VarsityGists, the incident occurred on Thursday last week and a journalist with the state-owned Daily Graphic was also beaten up by the angered students.

The phone of the journalist was also taken away by the students who reportedly chased him on a motorbike and rained blows on him as he jumped onto a moving commercial bus to save his life.

The invigilators also had their phones trashed by the students who were unhappy with the strict supervision and social distancing protocols in the exam hall.

The police eventually intervened and frayed nerves were calmed.
