Rafael Nadal of Spain has defeated Daniil Medvedev 7-5, 6-3, 5-7, 4-6, 6-4 to clinch the 2019 US Open title.
The win makes it Nadal’s fourth US Open title and 19th Grand Slam trophy.
The Champion, who was overwhelmed by emotions, reflected on the rough road he had to go through to get to where he was; tough physical and mental challenges.
In some ways, that’s good; to see all the things I went through. Being able to still be here is so special for me. I went through some tough moments, physically especially. When you have physical issues then mentally things became much more difficult.
