Mark Dayton, Governor of Minnesota, has declared October 6 ‘Wizkid Day’ in the state as he describes the singer as ”one of the most influential artists of our time”.
This is coming after Wizkid became the first African artist to sell out the Skyway Theatre in Minnesota, US.
The singer disclosed he sold out the venue via Twitter when he tweeted; “Sold out again last night! Love u Minnesota, y’all in my heart forever.”
Wizkid have been raising the bar for African artists ever since he signed a major deal with Sony/RCA, selling out the Royal Albert Hall, 02 Arena and more to his name. This must have impressed the Governor of Minnesota which made him decorate Wizkid this much.

Before Wizkid, Beyonce is the only artiste who has received such distinction from the State of Minnesota.
