UNILAG Vice-Chancellor Professor Oluwatoyin Ogundipe Sacked By Varsity’s Governing Council

The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Lagos (UNILAG), Professor Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, has been sacked by the Governing Council of the school.

Tribune reports that Ogundipe’s removal was announced during a meeting of the Governing Council of the institution which took place at the National Universities Commission (NUC) in Abuja on Wednesday, August 12, 2020.

According to the report, seven members voted for the removal of Ogundipe while four voted against. One of the members voted that he should rather be placed on suspension.

The meeting was presided over by its Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council, Dr. Wale Babalakin.

A group called the ‘Concerned Stakeholders of UNILAG’ had called for Ogundipe’s replacement in March 2020, speaking against the backdrop of the impasse surrounding the postponement of the institution’s 2018/2019 convocation ceremony earlier that month.
