Boris Johnson’s father, Stanley, 80, is being criticised for flouting the ‘essential travel only’ order imposed by the UK government.
Mr Stanley Johnson traveled to Athens last night to visit his mountain villa in Pelion and this has generated backlash from social media users who compared it to Dominic Cummings’ revelation that he drove from London to Durham during the COVID-19 lockdown.
During his voyage he shared snaps from the aeroplane and also uploaded a selfie where he was clad in a face mask at an airport.
Speaking from the balcony of his villa in northern Greece last night, Mr Johnson told the Daily Mail: “I’m in Pelion on essential business trying to Covid-proof my property in view of the upcoming letting season.
“I need to set up distancing measures at the property because they’re taking it very seriously here.
“The Greeks are trying to stop bulk arrivals from the UK but they were quite happy to have me coming in.
“All they wanted to know where I was coming from and what I was doing. Then I had my temperature taken and was swabbed twice.
“We must get these air bridges set up as soon as possible. From what I’ve seen the arrival of the British will not be a danger to the Greeks because they’re so careful here.”
Stanley Johnson had in March hinted that he wouldn’t stay indoors despite the government placing restrictions to combat the spread of the coronavirus outbreak in the UK.
His action has generated lots of criticisms on social media platform Twitter with many lashing out at Boris Johnson for his failure to ‘put his house in order.’

Greece isn't accepting arrivals from the UK & the Foreign Office advises against all non-essential travel. But that hasn't stopped Stanley Johnson.
As we saw with Dominic Cummings, laws & advice designed to stop the spread of deadly disease are strictly for the little people. pic.twitter.com/TzzjNu0AwG

Anyway, I’m a little surprised Stanley Johnson has zipped off to Greece: I thought he’d want to be here for the pub openings.

All the people moaning about Stanley Johnson seem to have forgotten that the upper classes are quite simply better than us. Now lower your eyes and get back in the mud, I think I’ve found a turnip that we can chew on raw.
