Uber Technologies Inc. has launched a boat service in the commercial city of Lagos, Nigeria to draw those intending to shun its traffic-congested roads.
The development was announced on Friday, where Uber officials disclosed that the boat service would consist of four trips per day, conveying up to 35 individuals on a boat as part of its two-week pilot.
The Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu was pleased about the news, stating that the boat service was an initiative that was meant to ease the constantly traffic-laden roads.
In a country whose population has been predicted to be more than double 400 million in 2050, Uber’s recent move is a welcome one as the traffic issue and predominantly bad roads have irked road users for years and for those who are willing and able, plying the waterways should be a welcome alternative.
