‘Treasure Island’ Inspired Movie To Be Directed By Dean DeBlois

How to Train Your Dragon director Dean DeBlois has been hired by Universal Pictures and Mandeville Films to helm a movie inspired by R.L. Stevenson’s novel Treasure Island.

Working with DeBlois to write the screenplay is Evan Spiliotopoulous, who wrote the script for Beauty and the Beast.

DeBlois will make his first live-action feature film for Paramount/Hasbro in 2021. That means that the Treasure Island project, which is still in the early stages of development, will start production afterward.

The book which was written by Robert Louis Stevenson in 1881 is set in the era of sailing ships and pirates and tells the story of Jim Hawkins, a boy who searches for a buried treasure.

Dean DeBlois is a Canadian film director, producer, screenwriter, and animator best known for co-writing and co-directing the Oscar-nominated animated films Lilo & Stitch for Disney, and the How to Train Your Dragon film trilogy for DreamWorks Animation.

A graduate of Theatre Arts who is also a scriptwriter, editor, director, and movie critic.
