Tragic Shooting Claims Lives of Newly-Wed Teachers at Plateau High School
Community Mourns Loss of Educator Couple in Plateau School Shooting

In a shocking incident that has sent shockwaves through the community, gunmen opened fire at BECO Comprehensive High School in Kwi, situated within the Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau. The targeted attack resulted in the loss of two precious lives – a recently married couple who were both esteemed educators at the institution.

The victims, identified as Mr. and Mrs. Rwang Danladi, were in the midst of a critical meeting on Monday afternoon when the assailants struck. The couple, well-regarded for their dedication to education, had recently exchanged their vows and embarked on a promising journey together. Tragically, this promising chapter was abruptly cut short.

The violence extended further, leaving Mr. Dalyop Emmanuel, the Vice-Principal of the school, seriously wounded and in need of immediate medical attention. The incident has created a palpable sense of grief and outrage among the educational community and local residents.

Confirming the harrowing event, the Police Public Relations Officer of Plateau, DSP Alfred Alabo, shared brief details of the incident. While refraining from delving into specifics, Alabo assured the public that law enforcement was taking decisive action to address the situation and bring those responsible to justice.

Expressing profound sorrow over the heart-wrenching occurrence, Mr. Rwang Tengwong, the National Publicity Secretary of Berom Youth Movement, a prominent socio-cultural group, released an official statement on Tuesday. According to Tengwong, the incident unfolded around 3:00 p.m. on Monday, during a meeting aimed at collating student results in preparation for the upcoming 2023 Speech and Prize-Giving Day scheduled for this Friday.

“The invasion of BECO Comprehensive High School Kwi by gunmen has left us deeply saddened,” Tengwong conveyed. “We have lost two remarkable educators, Mr. and Mrs. Rwang Danladi, a couple who had just begun their journey as newly-weds. The armed assailants also inflicted grievous harm upon Mr. Dalyop Emmanuel, the Vice-Principal of the school.”

Tengwong continued, “The teachers were engaged in an essential task, working to compile students’ results for an event that symbolizes the aspirations of the academic community. Our thoughts are also with Mr. Emmanuel, currently undergoing treatment at the Jos University Teaching Hospital.”

Condemning the alarming rise of criminal activities in certain communities within the state, the spokesperson highlighted the urgent need for security agencies to intervene. “We urgently call upon security operatives to take action against these communities that have unfortunately become sanctuaries for criminals, notably Fass and Mahanga in Riyom,” Tengwong asserted.

As the investigation continues, the incident has underscored the pressing need for enhanced security measures to protect educational institutions and the communities they serve, with many hoping for swift justice in the face of this heart-rending tragedy.
