Media personality and entrepreneur Toke Makinwa has spoken out against the common belief that single people are inherently lonely or unhappy.

In a post shared on the social media platform X, Makinwa challenged the idea that life’s fulfillment revolves around being in a relationship. She emphasized that many single individuals lead content and satisfying lives, countering the narrative that happiness is tied to romantic partnerships.

“Beats me how some people think that every single person is lonely,” she wrote. “It’ll shock you how content and happy single people are. Don’t get me wrong, it’s good to do life with someone, but if you don’t find your own purpose, you can be with someone and still be lonely.”

Makinwa highlighted the importance of personal fulfillment, urging individuals to prioritize their happiness over societal expectations to couple up.

As the New Year approaches, she called for a mindset shift: “Let that rubbish behaviour of thinking single people are miserable or lonely or sad be left in 2024. There are so many people in horrible situations (whatever you call it) that secretly wish they were alone, so let people be.”
