In a resolute stance on accountability and performance, President Bola Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, has underscored that the President will not shy away from dismissing any member of his cabinet who fails to meet prescribed benchmarks.
This declaration comes in the wake of the President’s recent cabinet inauguration, which saw the induction of 45 ministers tasked with realizing the administration’s “renewed hope” agenda.
Speaking candidly on the Sunrise Daily program aired by Channels Television, Ngelale elucidated that President Tinubu has meticulously established benchmarks along with specific timelines for his ministers.
He emphasized that the president not only expects a comprehensive strategy upon assuming office but also sets clear timeframes within which the ministers are anticipated to achieve their goals. Failing to meet these objectives, Ngelale stressed, will result in severe consequences, including potential dismissal from the cabinet.
“President Bola Tinubu is someone who has the results. He says ‘These are your benchmarks, I know what I want you to achieve, I’m not expecting you to just come up with some plan when you get there. I’m telling you the time frame within which I expect you to achieve, he said.
“And if you don’t, there are consequences. He’s ready to fire a minister at the drop of a dime if he is not getting what he wants. Absolutely.”
Ngelale defended the number of ministers appointed, elucidating that the President holds a strong conviction in the value of specialization as a catalyst for heightened performance.
“From the President’s standpoint, there existed an urgent requirement for hands-on specialization within the federal government,” Ngelale expounded.
Reflecting on the scope of the challenges, he articulated, “By enhancing specialization and streamlining roles, we can entrust Musa Dangiwa with the housing sector, leveraging his proficiency in reforming the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria.”
Elaborating further, Ngelale stated, “He doesn’t need to worry about power or works. The president said if I am going to put a minister in place who has a sole focus, there is no excuse for failure. And at that point, you can now say we can hold them accountable.”
