The event, which commenced at approximately 11:16 am, witnessed the presence of distinguished guests, including current and former governors.

The council chambers of the presidential villa served as the venue for the momentous occasion, where Akume solemnly recited the Oath of Allegiance and the Oath of Office.

Vice-President Kashim Shettima, Senate President Ahmed Lawan, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara state, and Folashade Yemi-Esan, the head of the civil service of the federation, were among the prominent figures who graced the brief but significant ceremony.

Regina Akume, the wife of the newly appointed SGF, also attended the event, lending support and adding a touch of warmth to the atmosphere.

President Tinubu officially announced Akume’s appointment as SGF on June 2, along with the appointment of Femi Gbajabiamila, the outgoing speaker of the House of Representatives, as his Chief of Staff.

Furthermore, Ibrahim Hassan Hadejia, a former deputy governor of Jigawa state, was appointed as the Deputy Chief of Staff, completing the president’s key personnel choices.

Prior to assuming the role of SGF, George Akume held various significant positions, including serving as the Minority Leader of the Senate from June 2011 to June 2015.

Additionally, he served as the governor of Benue state for two terms, from 1999 to 2007, coinciding with President Tinubu’s tenure as governor of Lagos state.

The swearing-in ceremony solidifies President Tinubu’s commitment to assembling a competent and experienced team to drive his administration’s agenda.
