In a statement entitled “Nigeria: At the Cusp of Renewed Hope,” President-elect and Senator, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, emphasized the importance of selecting competent and trustworthy individuals to serve in his cabinet. He stated that it was time for governance to take precedence over politics and that only those who shared his vision of good governance would be selected.
Tinubu expressed his ambition to establish a government of national competence rather than simply a government of national unity. He pledged to select men, women, and young people from across Nigeria who were competent and could perform their duties effectively. He stressed that he would not be swayed by extraneous considerations when choosing members of his government.
The incoming president called for a focus on securing the nation and making it prosperous. He noted that the whims of politics must take a backseat to the imperatives of governance. Tinubu stated that there were many challenges facing Nigeria, including the need to build bridges and roads, create jobs, and provide water to those in need. He emphasized the importance of nurturing enlightenment, civic responsibility, and compassion among Nigerians.
Tinubu pledged to run an economy of double-digit GDP growth, ensure greater food security, strengthen the manufacturing base, and establish an active digital economy that would provide ample space for young people to achieve their aspirations.
Tinubu further assured opposition political parties that he would run a government that would give all Nigerians, regardless of their political affiliation, a sense of belonging. He called for unity among Nigerians and emphasized that the better Nigeria he sought was not just for himself and his supporters but for all Nigerians.
In conclusion, Tinubu called on all Nigerians to work together for the common good of the country. He asked those who voted for him to continue believing in his policies and plans for the country and to reach out to those who did not vote for him with friendship, reconciliation, and togetherness. Tinubu urged all Nigerians to remain loyal to the cause of a greater, more tolerant, and just Nigeria.
