In response to the devastating boat accident that claimed numerous lives in Kwara State, President Bola Tinubu has taken immediate action by ordering a comprehensive investigation into the incident.
Talkglitz had previously covered the incident, reporting that approximately 100 individuals tragically lost their lives when the overloaded boat they were traveling on capsized in Egbu village, located in the Patigi Local Government Area of the state.
The victims, consisting of women and children, were returning from a wedding ceremony in Egboti, a community situated in Niger State.
Expressing profound sadness over the accident, President Tinubu conveyed his sympathies in a statement released on Wednesday.
The statement, signed by Abiodun Oladunjoye, the State House Director of Information, emphasized the president’s commitment to addressing the challenges associated with inland water transportation within the country.
“The news of the tragic boat accident that claimed the lives of our fellow citizens in Kwara State deeply saddens me,” President Tinubu lamented.
“The fact that the victims were guests at a wedding ceremony only serves to intensify the sorrow and tragedy surrounding this unfortunate accident.”
He continued, “My heartfelt sympathy and condolences go out to the families and friends of the victims who were affected by this grievous mishap. I also extend my sympathies to the government and people of Kwara State during this difficult time. May all those who have lost their loved ones find solace and comfort.”
In light of the incident, President Tinubu has urged the Kwara State government and relevant federal agencies to collaborate in order to uncover both the immediate and underlying causes of the accident.
Furthermore, he emphasized the importance of promptly providing necessary relief and support to the survivors and the families of the victims.
