TikTok Pushes Back Against Canada's Shutdown Order

TikTok is contesting a Canadian government order to shut down its operations in the country. The directive, issued last month, does not prohibit Canadians from accessing or using the app but mandates the closure of TikTok’s Canadian operations.

In a statement, TikTok expressed its desire to work toward a resolution that allows the platform and its local team to remain active in Canada.

“We believe it’s in the best interest of Canadians to find a meaningful solution and ensure that a local team remains in place, alongside the TikTok platform,” the company said.

The Canadian government’s decision is part of a broader push to address concerns over data privacy and national security, issues TikTok has faced in multiple countries. The app, owned by Chinese company ByteDance, has been under scrutiny for its data-sharing practices and potential influence from the Chinese government.

TikTok’s response indicates its willingness to collaborate with Canadian authorities to address their concerns while maintaining its operations and serving its Canadian user base.
