In a recent development, the Federal High Court in Abuja has granted bail to the suspended Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Abba Kyari, who was accused, along with his siblings, of failing to declare assets to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA). The court ruling was delivered today, Thursday, by Justice James Omotosho.
The charges filed by the NDLEA against Abba Kyari and his brothers, Mohammed Baba Kyari and Ali Kyari, encompassed a total of 24 counts. However, the focus of this bail hearing was solely on Abba Kyari.
Justice Omotosho, after careful consideration of the case, granted conditional bail to Abba Kyari in the amount of N50 million. The bail comes with the requirement of two sureties who must be able to provide properties valued at N25 million within the jurisdiction of the court. Additionally, other conditions were set forth by the judge.
It is important to note that despite meeting the bail conditions, the release of Abba Kyari is subject to the outcome of a related case in which he is currently being tried alongside four other individuals on allegations of involvement in illicit drug dealing. The court acknowledged the interconnectedness of the cases and made it clear that developments in the sister-case would influence the endorsement of his release warrant.
This development marks a significant step in the ongoing legal proceedings surrounding Abba Kyari, who was suspended from his position as DCP following his alleged involvement in the Hushpuppi fraud case.
