The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM) has said that 350 stranded Nigerians fleeing the crisis in Sudan have arrived at the Aswan Airport in Egypt for airlifting to Nigeria.
The evacuation process was initiated by the Nigerian government in collaboration with Ethiopian Airlines, and it’s expected to continue until all Nigerian nationals stranded in Sudan are repatriated.
The evacuees are expected to be airlifted by the Nigerian Air Force C130 and Air Peace. The statement further disclosed that 80 passengers would board the C130 while Air Peace would airlift 274 passengers.
The commission also stated that the checking-in of the evacuees has commenced following normal airport protocols, and they are expected to land in Nigeria approximately six hours from the time of departure.
The parents of the stranded Nigerians are expected to receive them at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, alongside some government officials.
