Several students from Ladoke Akintola University of Technology in Ogbomoso, Oyo State, have initiated legal proceedings against Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, and three other parties. The lawsuit pertains to the relocation of the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences to the newly established Faculty of Agricultural Science and Renewable Natural Resources, situated in the Iseyin Campus of the Iseyin Local Government Area within the state.
According to reports from The PUNCH, second-year students at the university were instructed to transfer to the Iseyin campus for the second semester of the current academic session. The lawsuit, identified as HOG/34/2023, was filed at an Oyo State High Court in Ogbomoso, and the plaintiffs include Akintayo Abdulqoyuum Ajibola, Onwi Edet, Ezekiel Ogunmola, and Aderemi Olude. They are representing both themselves and other students and parents of the 200 Level students within the faculty.
Although no specific date has been scheduled for the lawsuit’s hearing, the court documents, dated Monday, October 30, and obtained by a correspondent, have listed the state Commissioner for Education, the acting Vice-Chancellor of LAUTECH, and the Provost of Iseyin campus as additional defendants in the case.
The claimants are seeking a court order to prohibit the governor and his representatives from proceeding with the planned relocation.
