Six people have lost their lives in a terrible car accident that happened at Iwaraja junction (Igbelajewa) area, Ipetu-Ijesha route of Osun State. The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Superintendent Route Commander, Mrs. Agnes Ogungbemi, who also serves as the Federal Sector Public Education Officer of the Corps, disclosed this information in a statement sent to journalists on Tuesday evening.

The incident involved two vehicles, a Toyota Sienna and an Opel Zafira, and 14 people were involved. Mrs. Ogungbemi stated that seven passengers sustained serious injuries while only one person was unharmed. She attributed the cause of the accident to the two drivers’ over-speeding and reckless driving.

The injured victims were immediately taken to Wesley hospital in Ilesa, while the corpses of the deceased passengers were deposited at the same hospital morgue. Additionally, the FRSC officials recovered N21,900 that belonged to the driver of the GBA440XA OPEL Safira, and it has been handed over to the Police division in Ijebu Ijesa. The sum of Twenty Seven Million One Hundred and Seventy-One Thousand Four Hundred Naira (#27,171,400) was also found at the scene and was handed over to the victims’ family members.

Mrs. Ogungbemi advised motorists to always be cautious while driving on the highways, stating that the accident could have been avoided if the drivers exercised caution. It is essential to always obey traffic laws and avoid reckless driving, especially on the highways where accidents can easily lead to fatal consequences.
