On Monday, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced the cancellation of the senatorial election results in Abaji and Bwari area councils of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), due to over-voting.

The collation officer for the FCT senatorial results, Prof. Sani Saka, informed reporters in Abuja of the decision, citing that the number of valid votes cast exceeded the number of accredited voters, with a total of 21,903 votes cast and only 21,473 voters accredited.

The inclusion of the African Democratic Party (ADP) on the ballot papers, even though the party did not field a candidate in the election, was also flagged by political party agents. This, along with the issue of over-voting, resulted in the cancellation of the senatorial election results in Abaji and Bwari area councils. In the Bwari area council, over-voting led to the cancellation of results, with the Labour Party candidate receiving 56,913 votes, while the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and main opposition party People’s Democratic Party (PDP) received 13,807 and 19,561 votes, respectively.
