Senator Kalu Urges President Buhari to Continue Leading APC

Senator Kalu recently met with President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa in Abuja and officially informed him of his intention to run for the position of President of the Senate if the All Progressives Congress (APC) zones the position to the Southeast. During a closed-door meeting with the President, the senator argued that zoning the position to the Southeast would bring peace to Nigeria, despite the zone not having voted for Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, the President-elect, in the recently concluded Presidential election.

Senator Kalu, who represents Abia North Senatorial District, emphasized the need for the ruling party to maintain stability and avoid serious crises, adding that Buhari’s interventions had saved the APC from going under. In a bid to ensure the continued leadership of the President in the party, the senator suggested that Buhari take over the position of the APC’s Board of Trustees (BoT) immediately after handing over to the President-elect later in the year.

The senator further explained that having the President as the Chairman of the Board of Trustees would provide direction for the party and ensure that it does not become empty. He urged the President not to retire from politics but to continue leading the party at the highest level so that every three or four months, he could intervene and settle party matters. Senator Kalu said that he would be consulting the party on this matter.

In conclusion, Senator Kalu stressed that the country needed a man like President Buhari to maintain peace and stability in the party and ensure that Nigeria continues to progress.
