In a shocking development, the Rivers State Police Command has apprehended one of its own, Corporal Bright Oke, for his alleged involvement in armed robbery and car snatching.
The arrest was made possible by the diligent efforts of the C4i Intelligence Unit, who intercepted the suspects during a routine patrol.
According to Superintendent of Police Grace Iringe-Koko, the command’s spokesperson, the incident took place on Thursday, May 18, 2023, around 11 pm at the Gateway area of Ada George in Port Harcourt. Acting on prior intelligence received, the C4i Intelligence Team became suspicious of a Toyota Corolla 2005 model bearing the license plate BNY 741 FV.
“The team members engaged in a high-speed pursuit and successfully intercepted the vehicle,” stated Iringe-Koko during a press conference held in Port Harcourt. “As a result of their swift action, three individuals were apprehended, including Corporal Bright Oke, Samuel Charles, and Michael Nwachukwu. Unfortunately, one member of the gang managed to escape.”
Further investigations revealed that the suspects had robbed an unidentified victim at gunpoint near the Apostolic Church Gateway in Port Harcourt. Their primary objective was to steal the victim’s gray-colored Toyota Corolla 2005 model, bearing the same license plate as the intercepted vehicle.
“All the suspects involved in the incident have confessed to their crimes. In accordance with internal police procedures, Corporal Bright Oke has been subjected to a thorough investigation, leading to his dismissal from the force,” added Iringe-Koko.
The dismissed police corporal, along with his accomplices, will be facing charges in court. Law enforcement authorities have seized several pieces of evidence from the suspects, including a single-barrel locally made gun with one live cartridge and the gray Toyota Corolla Car 2005 model.
