The Kano State Police Command has taken the unprecedented step of imposing a ban on all forms of protests within the state with immediate effect.

Police Bans Protests In Kano
The announcement was made by the Commissioner of Police for Kano State, Husaini Gumel, during a press conference held at the state’s police headquarters on Monday.

Gumel revealed that the decision to impose the ban was driven by credible intelligence reports pointing to the preparation of large-scale street demonstrations by political parties, namely the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC). The intended protests were purportedly aimed at protesting against ongoing tribunal proceedings.

This development comes at a critical juncture in Kano State’s political landscape, as key tribunal proceedings are underway. The ban on protests, however, brings to the forefront the delicate challenge of balancing civil liberties with the pressing need to maintain order and security within the state.

As Kano State grapples with this unprecedented move, the nation watches closely to gauge the effectiveness of the ban and its implications for the broader discourse surrounding citizens’ rights and security concerns.
