A lawmaker representing Dala Federal Constituency at the House of Representatives, Sani Madakin Gini, has been arrested by the police for unlawful possession of firearms.
TalkGlitz learned that the lawmaker is currently under investigation. Sani Madakin Gini was elected under the platform of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP)
Haruna Abdullahi, the police spokesperson in Kano, confirmed the development to newsmen.
Abdullahi said Madaki is still in police custody and that an investigation is ongoing.
PPRO, said, “We can confirm that Honourable Sani Madakin Gini has been arrested for unlawful possession of firearms. He is currently in our custody and undergoing investigation.”
He added that the police would not relent in its effort to ensure that the law is upheld and that everyone, irrespective of their status or position, is held accountable for their actions.
The development comes days after Alhassan Doguwa, majority leader of the house of representatives, was arrested by the police for his alleged role in attacks in Kano state during the general election.
On Wednesday, he was charged to court and remanded in prison over alleged criminal conspiracy, culpable homicide, unlawful firearm possession, mischief, and public disturbance.
There were violent clashes in Kano during the elections. The conflicts were allegedly sponsored by candidates contesting for elective office.
