Peter Obi, the standard-bearer of the Labour Party (LP), has responded to recent comments made by members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) regarding the victory of Bola Tinubu in the recently concluded presidential election.

The wife of the President, Mrs Aisha Buhari, had previously described the victory as the will of God, stating that “Regardless of our interests and diversity, we should all accept it as the will of Almighty God; we wouldn’t have done it without his grace.”

In an interview with Arise Television, which was monitored by TRIBUNE ONLINE, Obi disagreed with the First Lady’s comments, stating that God’s will is to do the right thing and not the other way around. He emphasized that accepting wrongdoing and what is unacceptable is not what God is saying and that using God’s name in vain is a problem in Nigeria.

Bola Tinubu was declared the winner of the presidential election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), having defeated 17 other candidates with a total of 8,794,726 votes, meeting the first constitutional requirement to be declared the winner. He also scored over 25 percent of the votes cast in 30 states, more than the 24 states constitutionally required.

However, Peter Obi and his PDP counterpart have challenged the process that declared Tinubu as the winner of the poll, and the case is currently being heard at the Presidential Tribunal.
