The Labour Party Presidential Campaign Council (LPPCC) has reported that their presidential candidate, Peter Obi, was detained and questioned for several hours by immigration officials at Heathrow Airport in London.

The incident was allegedly linked to an impostor who committed offenses, putting the real Peter Obi at risk of arrest in the United Kingdom. The LPPCC has warned that the impersonator is still at large and could potentially commit further crimes under the guise of Peter Obi, causing severe consequences for the presidential candidate.

According to a statement signed by the Head of Media for the Obi-Datti campaign, Diran Onifade, Peter Obi was arrested at Heathrow Airport on suspicion of duplication while returning from celebrating Easter in the United Kingdom. The statement further revealed that the presidential candidate of the Labour Party is currently in court challenging the outcome of the February 25th presidential election in Nigeria.

The statement reads, “The Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, just back from London, United Kingdom where he celebrated Easter, has confirmed that he was harassed by London immigration officials and placed for detention but for the spontaneous reaction of Nigerians at Heathrow Airport.”

The statement continued, “Obi-Datti Media office can confirm that the LP Presidential candidate in the February 25th Presidential poll arrived at Heathrow Airport in London from Nigeria on Good Friday, April 7, 2023, and joined the queue for the necessary Airport protocols when he was accosted by immigration officials who handed him a detention note and told him to step aside. He was questioned for a long time and it was very strange for a man who lived for over a decade in that country.”

The LPPCC has expressed concern that since Peter Obi’s face is already well-known internationally, especially among Nigerians, Africans at home and abroad, the impersonator could commit various crimes under Peter Obi’s identity. This could lead to the real Peter Obi being implicated in a series of illegal activities and could be a significant embarrassment to him, his family, party, the Obidient Movement, and Nigeria as a whole, where he remains the conscience of the people.

Obi-Datti Media Office has reminded the public that their principal, Peter Obi, has been under attack since the February 25th, 2023 Presidential election. Despite coming third out of 18 contestants, as announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Peter Obi’s supporters and many other election watchers, including international observers, believe he won the election but was manipulated out.

The LPPCC is calling for increased security measures to be put in place to protect Peter Obi and prevent any further impersonation attempts. They have also urged Nigerians to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities that could potentially implicate the presidential candidate.
