The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Cross River State on Monday presented Emana Duke Ambrose-Amawhe as the deputy governorship candidate of the party in the 2023 election.
She was presented at the party’s state secretariat on Mary Slessor Avenue in Calabar by the governorship candidate of the party, Sandy Onor, and the state party Chairman, Venatius Ikem.
In his remarks, Onor said, “You can’t properly mobilize without the strength of women. Since Cecilia Ekpenyong had a short stint as a woman deputy governor in Cross River State (30 years ago), we have not carried our women along again.
“So we came to the conclusion that we needed to fill the deputy governorship seat with a woman. Women cannot just be cheerleaders among us. Women must also be integrated and given pride of place.”
He extolled the virtues of Amawhe, and added that she is a woman of character God who has agreed to “serve with me to redeem Cross River.”
Onor said the party would win the governorship election in 2023.
Responding, Amawhe thanked God and the party “for finding her worthy” to be the deputy governorship candidate of the party.
“I accept this nomination. We are here to take back our state,” she said.
The state Chairman of the party, Venatius Ikem, said the governorship candidate, Sandy Onor, “couldn’t have made a better choice,” adding, “these two people will give us joy.”
