A leader of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Ukwuani Local Government Area of Delta State, Chief Dele Omenogor, has tendered his resignation from the party. In a letter addressed to the chairman of Ward 6 Amai in the council area, Omenogor cited the neglect of Amai Kingdom and the entire Ukwuani nation by the Okowa administration for nearly eight years.
Omenogor, an engineer and businessman, expressed his disappointment at the lack of equity and fairness in Governor Okowa’s approach to infrastructure development. He lamented that despite his unwavering support for the party, the people of Amai and Ukwuani Local Government Area had little or nothing to show for it.
“As a leader, I have worked tirelessly for the party, using both human and financial resources to advance its cause in Amai and Ukwuani Local Government Area as a whole. However, the dividends of democracy have continued to elude us,” he stated.
Omenogor went further to highlight the absence of basic amenities such as roads, markets, hospitals, and schools in his community, while neighbouring communities enjoyed government-funded infrastructure. He questioned Governor Okowa’s neglect of Amai Kingdom, despite their support for the party.
The former PDP leader noted that his inability to attract any project to their community had become a subject of mockery, and the youths and middle-aged indigenes have rightly questioned his membership in the party.
In light of this, Omenogor intends to consult widely and take necessary steps to reposition Amai, so that the plights of his community and its people will be addressed in the post-May 29, 2023 governance of Delta State.
