Dr. Abdul-Azeez Adediran, also known as Jandor, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Lagos State, has refuted claims that he has withdrawn from the governorship race in favor of another candidate.
In a press conference held on Thursday ahead of the March 18th governorship election, Adeniran reiterated that he has not stepped down for any candidate in the state.
This statement comes after the Lagos State PDP had already announced that Adediran would not step down for any other candidate. Hakeem Amode, the PDP spokesperson in Lagos, dismissed rumors that Adediran was planning to withdraw from the race for Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, the Labour Party (LP) candidate, as “false.”
Rhodes-Vivour had claimed that the LP was “talking to the owner of the structure of PDP” in the run-up to the March 11 governorship election. There have been speculations that the LP and PDP might form an alliance to defeat the ruling party, the All Progressives Congress, in the state.
The Lagos PDP, however, has denied any official conversation between the party and the LP. The party stated that Rhodes-Vivour’s comment was a disrespect to the PDP and that no one can claim ownership of the PDP’s structure. The statement further clarified that whoever Rhodes-Vivour was talking to did not represent the Lagos PDP, and no official conversation had taken place between the two parties at the moment. Additionally, the statement reiterated that Jandor has no plans to step down for any candidate.
