The gubernatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Jigawa state, Mustapha Sule Lamido, has made claims that voters during the recently concluded governorship election in the state were allegedly bribed with spaghetti noodles in exchange for votes. He expressed his disappointment with the election outcome and hinted that his party may take legal action over it. Lamido made these statements during an interview with the Hausa Service of the BBC, which was monitored by our correspondent on Wednesday.
Lamido expressed gratitude to the people of Jigawa state for coming out in large numbers to vote for him and assured them of his commitment to their well-being. As someone who was born into a political family, he emphasized that meeting the needs of the people was his top priority, particularly in addressing the challenges faced by the youth, men, and women in the state.
Despite his disappointment with the outcome of the election, Lamido expressed his determination to keep working hard for the betterment of the people. However, he alleged that the security agencies were complicit in the vote-buying scandal that marred the election. Going forward, Lamido vowed not to allow the politics of bribery to determine the destiny of the people of Jigawa state, stating that his party would not tolerate the use of spaghetti noodles as a vehicle for desperate politicians to mortgage the future of the state.
