A pastor named Kayode Salami, 37, has been apprehended by the police in Ondo State for allegedly raping and killing one of his church members, Adejoke Oloje. The victim had accompanied her cousin to Oke-Irapada Church and decided to stay in the church with her 11-month-old baby. It was at the church that she met her untimely death.

Adejoke’s mother, Deborah Olojo, spoke on the tragic incident, explaining that her daughter had visited her in Idanre before abruptly leaving without notice. She later learned that Adejoke was in Alade with her cousin, Aderonke, who told her that Adejoke was staying in the church, not with her.

Deborah then traced Adejoke to the church where she found her daughter, who complained of food shortages. Deborah promised to bring some the following day and pleaded with her to leave the church, but Adejoke refused.

The next day, when Deborah arrived at the church, she found Adejoke’s baby crying and the door to the room closed. Upon forcing the door open, she discovered her daughter lying on the floor with her panties removed. She immediately called for help, but Adejoke was confirmed dead at the hospital.

The police were informed of the incident, and the pastor was arrested. Deborah revealed that when he was arrested, the pastor’s trouser was torn and he wasn’t wearing any underwear. She expressed her grief over her daughter’s tragic death and urged that the culprit not go unpunished.

The pastor, however, denied knowing the cause of Adejoke’s death. He claimed that he met Adejoke and her cousin when they came to his church to worship and that he gave them accommodation in one of the rooms in the church. He further stated that he had gone to work the morning after holding a vigil in the church and that Adejoke had come to his place of work to charge her phone.

The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Funmi Odunlami confirmed the arrest of the pastor and stated that the case had been transferred to Akure for further investigation.
