Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State is set to inaugurate his newly appointed commissioners in a ceremony scheduled for Wednesday, July 19, 2023. This development was reported by The PUNCH, and the list of commissioner-nominees includes prominent figures from previous administrations.
During a plenary session on July 7, Speaker Adewale Egbedun read out the names of the nominees as stated in Governor Adeleke’s letter to Members of Parliament. Among the individuals unveiled were Festus Adeyemo, who served as the Chief of Staff to former Governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola, and two former commissioners who served under ex-Governor Rauf Aregbesola.
Kolapo Alimi, who previously held the position of Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, and Mr. Biyi Odunlade, who served as a Special Adviser before becoming the Commissioner for Sports, were the two nominees who were part of Aregbesola’s cabinet.
Festus Adeyemo, hailing from Irewole Local Government Area, assumed the role of Chief of Staff to Oyinlola towards the end of his administration, following the resignation of Dr. Peter Babalola, who had aspirations for the governorship.
Interestingly, the list of commissioner-nominees also includes Mrs. Folashade Adeleke, the elder sister of the current governor, as well as the widow of late Senator Isiaka Adeleke, further adding a familial touch to the composition.
Additional nominees who will be sworn in alongside the aforementioned individuals include Rev. Bunmi Jenyo, a former chairman of Atakumosa West local government, Oladosu Babatunde, Bayo Ogungbangbe, Sesan Oyedele, Soji Ajeigbe, Moshood Olagunju, George Alabi, Sunday Oroniyi, Abiodun Ojo, Dr. Basiru Salami, Morufu Ayofe, and Sola Ogungbile.
Contrary to earlier reports, Olawale Rasheed, the governor’s spokesperson, has clarified that the swearing-in ceremony is scheduled to take place on Tuesday. This clarifies any confusion surrounding the actual date of the event.
As the newly appointed commissioners prepare to assume their responsibilities, all eyes will be on Osun State, anticipating the impact and direction these individuals will bring to the table under Governor Ademola Adeleke’s administration.
