A coalition of civil society organizations known as The Osun Masterminds (TOM) has expressed concern over the increasing insecurity in Osun State and has called on the Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, to address the issue immediately. TOM’s Executive Director, Dr Wasiu Ali-Oyedokun, made the call at a press conference held in Osogbo on Tuesday.
Dr Ali-Oyedokun emphasized the need for the governor to revamp the state’s security architecture, particularly the Amotekun Corps, to prevent the situation from escalating into a full-blown crisis. He expressed sadness over the rising level of insecurity in the state and the resulting reign of terror that has engulfed the capital and the entire state.
He also cited recent kidnapping and robbery incidents, stressing that urgent action must be taken to bring the perpetrators to book before the state is plunged into unrest. The group called on the governor to engage all security agencies in the state and develop new modalities that would ensure the safety of lives and property.
TOM expressed concern that the state may devolve into a chaotic and unsafe state if nothing is done urgently to address the insecurity situation. They urged the governor to take swift action to restore confidence in the state and ensure the security of its citizens.
In addition, TOM commended the governor’s pledge to domesticate the Start-up Act to promote businesses in the state. However, the group also emphasized the need to revisit the issue of the sacked 1,500 teachers and health workers in the state to safeguard the interests of residents across various sectors.
Dr Ali-Oyedokun pointed out that the state’s schools urgently require more teachers, and the employment of additional teachers would help reduce unemployment rates in the state. The group called on the governor to take action on these issues and ensure that the state remains safe and prosperous for all its citizens.
