In a stern message delivered during the closing ceremony of the 2023 Batch ‘B’ (Stream 1) orientation course, the Executive Governor of Ondo State, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu, SAN, CON, cautioned National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members against engaging in local politics at their respective Places of Primary Assignment (PPAs).
Represented by the Chairman of the Ondo State NYSC Governing Board, Otunba Bamidele Ologun, Governor Akeredolu emphasized the significance of patriotism, integrity, hard work, and unity, urging the corps members to prioritize these values as they embark on their service to the nation.
“Gentlemen corps members, the three-week orientation course program that you actively participated in is designed for all of you to contribute meaningfully to the overall development of this great country as you go to your various places of primary assignment,” said the Governor.
Governor Akeredolu encouraged the corps members to actively participate in the socio-economic and political development of Ondo State, expressing hope that they would uphold the trust placed in them by the residents and citizens of the country to serve the nation tirelessly.
He further urged the corps members to foster a positive and harmonious relationship with their host communities, encouraging them to immerse themselves in the local culture and ways of life.
“As mirrors of society, I admonish you to impact positively on your host communities and transfer the knowledge acquired during the skill acquisition training to better their lives and combat the issue of youth unemployment,” the Governor advised.
Governor Akeredolu assured the NYSC members that his administration would prioritize their welfare and hospitality during their stay in the state, emphasizing that security measures would be taken to ensure their safety.
During the ceremony, special recognition was given to Mr. Gbenga Onijingin, an NYSC staff, and Mr. Adesola, the Head of Man ‘O’ War, who were honored as the Best Camp Officials under the NYSC and NON-NYSC categories, respectively.
The orientation course, which spanned three weeks, saw approximately 1500 corps members gather at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Ikare-Akoko. Throughout the course, they received extensive leadership training, skills acquisition, drills, sports activities, lectures, and other exciting programs aimed at fostering patriotism and nation-building.
As the corps members now embark on their respective assignments, it is hoped that they will heed the Governor’s advice and contribute positively to the development and cohesion of Nigeria while refraining from engaging in local politics during their service. The people of Ondo State eagerly anticipate their dedication and impact on the community during their time as NYSC members.
