Omah Lay Reveals Struggle with Depression and Suicidal Thoughts

Omah Lay, the popular Nigerian musician, whose real name is Stanley Omah Didia, has revealed that he was once suicidal during his struggles with depression. In an interview with H Steph, the singer of the hit song “Soso” opened up about how he got through that difficult period in his life.

Omah Lay mentioned that he had a divine encounter while going through depression and overcoming it, and now he is able to help those who are experiencing similar struggles. He said, “I was at the verge of…I was suicidal, mahn. Trust me, I was really f*cked up.”

The singer believes that he had to go through those tough times to help people who are currently in that situation. Omah Lay feels that it will take a real person like him to make music out of the experience and talk openly about it. He believes that many Afrobeats artists are not doing enough to address deep issues in their music.

Omah Lay said, “I’m not sure you will find afrobeats artists who do that right now. Everybody is out there saying afrobeats are not so deep, ‘afrobeats are just vibes and sh*t’. Nah. That’s why everybody is just doing hype. The real music is dying.”

Despite the challenges he faced, Omah Lay is undeterred in making ‘real music’ from his experience. His openness about his struggles with depression serves as an inspiration to many people who may be going through similar situations. The musician has shown that it is possible to turn one’s pain into art that can help others.
