Seek Protection before Religious Activities, Ogun State Religious Leaders Told

In the aftermath of the tragic attack on a Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) in Abule-Ori, Obafemi-Owode Local Government of Ogun State, the Ogun State Police Command has issued a stern warning to religious leaders across the state. The police command advised religious leaders to seek police protection before organizing any religious activities.

Last weekend, the RCCG church in Abule-Ori fell victim to a heinous act of violence when unidentified gunmen attacked the premises, resulting in the loss of a pastor’s life and the abduction of seven worshippers. Prompt action by the police and the Ogun So-Safe Corps ultimately led to the rescue of the kidnapped victims, with one of the assailants being neutralized.

In a press statement released on Friday, the police spokesperson in the state, Omolola Odutola, conveyed the warning issued by the State Commissioner, Abiodun Alamutu. Odutola emphasized the importance of seeking adequate security and coverage by approaching the nearest Area Commands or Divisional Police Stations before organizing any religious activities.

To ensure the safety of worshippers, the police further advised religious organizations to refrain from organizing night programs for their members. Instead, they urged churches and mosques to consider holding their services during early evenings, enabling worshippers to return home safely before sunset.

Commissioner Alamutu called upon religious bodies to collaborate with the ongoing contingency plans of the Ogun State Police. He assured them that the police had implemented strategies to combat the rising trend of attacks on religious institutions and safeguard the lives of worshippers.

The recent incident at the RCCG church in Abule-Ori served as a stark reminder of the need for heightened security measures during religious gatherings. The police command’s proactive stance aims to prevent such tragic incidents and preserve the peace and tranquility of Ogun State.
